"You plant seeds every single day, in the world and in others, with every thought you think and word you speak and actions you take. You have influence." - Jennifer Williamson
To my planters, my grandmother (Wilma "Gammy" Jean) and aunt (Karen "Auntie" Hall), I thank you!
I could tell the story of just one day shopping at a thrift store and immensely falling in love with it, but that's not my story. It definitely took some time to embrace since the shamefulness of the "hand-me down" era was still a thing in the early 2000s... that was not too long ago actually.
Any who.
I honestly hadn't realized that the seed of thrift shopping and creativity for fashion was planted in me since the age of six. My aunt and grandmother used to take me and my brother with them every Saturday morning to thrift shop. I remember the old smells and spending hours in those stores walking down each and every aisle. I had no idea what was happening, I just remembered being excited about them buying us something!
The pure joy and innocence of just receiving a gift, especially clothes. Somewhere down the line, I became ashamed of the hand-me downs from thrift stores and even garage sales...my mom was a garage sale pro too!! But unfortunately, I never wore the items she bought because I was afraid of what other people would think.
It took me getting into my late 20s to break that mindset. I was tired of breaking the bank for outfits that were trending and items that everyone had on. So, thrifting became something that gave me a space to create and express myself in every detail...literally a lifestyle.
As I continue on this journey, I want to take you through my Thrift Hall. This is bigger than fashion and styling. I'll take a deeper dive into how, why and when I got this thing called Imprettythrifty started. There is so much to thrift and tell! Be sure to stay sowed in!
